The Pillar and Post in Niagara-on-the-Lake began as a canning factory in the 1890s, known as Factory 13, and was a major producer of local produce like peaches and tomatoes. After the cannery closed in 1957, it was used as a basket manufacturer and later a restaurant before being transformed into the Pillar and Post Inn in 1972, which was then expanded and has become the luxurious five-star hotel it is today.
The Gardens at Pillar and Post captivated us and are one of the main reasons we selected Pillar and Post as our wedding venue. The whimsical gardens and beautiful blooms are inspired by artist Claude Monet’s lush gardens in Giverny, France. The Gardens at Pillar and Post have received several awards, most notably an international 2022 DNA Paris Design Award for landscape design. The project also won the 2022 Niagara Biennial Design Award for Outstanding Achievement in Landscape Architecture, and the 2022 Grands Prix du Design for Gold Certification, according to Seferian Design Group, the landscape architects. They were also recognized by Landscape Ontario with an Award of Excellence.
There are paraells between The Gardens at Pillar and Post and Claude Monet's 1899 masterpiece, "Bridge Over a Pond of Water Lilies." The work depicts a Japanese-style wooden bridge in Monet's Giverny garden, which he created to be his subject for painting, showcasing the lilies and their reflections on the water's surface.

Fun Fact: Rochelle and her Maid of Honour, Sloane, travelled to NYC back in 2018. While touring The MET, they saw Claude Monet's original artwork, "Bridge Over a Pond of Water Lilies."
